I made the mistake of purchasing 3 GE window air conditioners. There was no warning on the package about the horrific beep tone that the air conditioner emits whenever any setting is changed. This tone is beyond belief, and can be heard several rooms away.
Two calls were made to GE customer service about the issue. The air conditioners operate noisily, and the incredibly annoying, loud beeping tone is unacceptable. GE customer service advised that the tone could not be changed or turned off. I called again and asked for a schematic of the air conditioner, so that I could disassemble it and disable this hideous beep tone. The representative advised that such activity would void the warranty. I told her that the warranty did not matter to me, and that I would gladly void it to stop the tone. She told me that schematics would NOT be provided.
If I had the extra money, I'd replace these 3 units and send the GE units directly to a recycling center. I'll never again spend my money buying a GE window air conditioner, nor will I recommend their product to anyone else. When I have guests, I tell them how disappointed I am with the GE window units, and demonstrate the nightmarish beep tone. I encourage them to tell their friends to never purchase a GE air conditioner. GE lost credibility when their customer service refused to provide me with a schematic of the product. NEVER again GE, never again will you benefit from my dollars.
