Ge appliances

I bought a house in September 2008 and have a new Ge Refrigerator, new ge stove, new ge dishwasher and new ge microwave. Dishwasher and microwave have died and the refrigerator keeps freezing up and wont make ice. How can all of your appliances die at one time. I will never buy ge again...What is so bad about this is they have quit working all at the same time. My microwave stated the key board had a short in it and it is a over the stove microwave. I checked all the breakers and has nothing to do with them working at this point...if i had known how sorry there products were i would never had bought there products.

GE Bad Quality, Worse Service

I purchased a GE Profile refrigerator less than 2 years ago, being their higher end line I thought you get what you pay for. My refrigerator recently stopped cooling over the weekend and all of my food had to be thrown away. I called Monday morning at 6:00 am to get the service from an extended warranty through Service Protection Advantage. The appointment could not be scheduled until late Wednesday. That is 5 days without a refrigerator, if they can fix it on the first visit. The 3rd party for the extended warranty can't help me move the date up and GE won't talk to me because the policy is not through them, even though they are the ones doing the service. For what I paid for the appliance and service contract I could have bought a cheaper appliance from another manufacturer and replaced it every 2 years out of pocket. Although I'm sure the cheaper appliance would last longer than the GE has and it wouldn't have to be replaced.

Robbed By GE

Bought a GE Profile refrigerator a little over a year ago. This thing is trash. We cannot keep food in the freezer. After about a week any thing in the freezer taste "freezer burnt" and has a large amount of frost built up on it. The drinks and food in the refrigerator door are not very cold also. I have had appliance technicians check it three times, one was even on the phone with the factory technician while checking everything. All three times I was told there was not anything wrong with it. I will never buy another GE appliance or recommend one to anyone. I see on here and on other appliance reviews that many other people have the same issues with these refrigerators. Junk, Junk, Junk!!!

Chronic GE refrigerator failures

We purchased a GE Profile refrigerator (Mod# PSS26PSTA SS) four years ago. It started failing after 3 years. Initially we were told it needed an "ice ball kit". Then a mother board failed. Then a therister failed. Then 7 more motherboards. Now the tech advises that foam needs to be inserted behind the therister to prevent ice build up and that three motherboard mounting screws should be removed to prevent shorting the motherboard. This is engineering incompetence and management fraud. GE used to be an American icon but now it is just a joks. Its execs hide behind automated phone lines to no where. I will vehemently recommend to everyone I meet to avoid GE products at all costs. I also recommend against using Consumer Reports as a guide since it was largely based on its recommendation that we bought this unit to begin with. Lastly, I am contacting the States Attorney;s Consumer Protection Div and any other legal entity related to consumer fraud to force GE to stand behind its (junk) products.

I've had a similar problem with my GE profile refrigerator. 6 months into purchasing the product the latch on the left door broke and it could not stay closed. It was then "recommended" that I purchase an extended warranty (more money in GE's pocket) just in case.

Soon after that the ice machine broke and then the door broke AGAIN where it had to be totally replaced.

After that the ice machine broke for a second time and now the fridge and freezer stopped cooling causing hundreds of dollars of food to have to be trashed because of this. All I was offered is a one time $100 reimbursement. It took a technician over 4 days to come and show up for repair and at the time the fridge began to work for a couple of hours so he was unable to diagnose the problem.

Upon calling back to once again schedule because the temperature in my freezer shot up to 35 and my fridge 50 degrees I was told the next available appointment would be 5 days to get a technician to check out the problem...that doesn't include the time I would have to wait for the compressor to come in the mail and then once again reschedule someone to install the compressor. After throwing a fit because having no fridge for at least 5 days is unacceptable they agreed to reimburse me for an outside technician to come and check out the issue (he came in less than 2 hours) and then GE wouldn't agree to allow the technician to fix the product!!!!!!

I am so disappointed with the products and service that come along with this brand (I own a GE over and microwave too...both of which I've had problems with) and I refuse to ever purchase these pieces of junk again. I need a company that stands by their product and offers customers good service for supporting their brand.

I'm with you Irate_with_GE_junk in regards to contacting the state attorney's consumer protection division. Judging by the horrible feedback on these fridges I'm sure we are not alone in this.

NEVER EVER BUY GE/Less than 2 years old and dead are my Refrigerator, Microwave and Convection Ovens

I had my house installed in September of 2009, less than two years ago with a GE side by side refrigerator, glass top oven, microwave oven, convection oven, and dishwasher (all stainless). Well now the side by side refrigerator compressor is out, the convection oven is dead, and the microwave oven does not heat. From this, can I assume I will need to replace my glass top oven and my dishwasher? GE tells me they can have a repair technician come out on my own dime. Really, I have to pay for this product? Had I of known this when I chose the appliances on my home, I would have tried going with LG or Kenmore. What is up with GE? All I can say is I will NEVER buy anything GE again. Horrible product, and bad service.

Hi Woody,

I, too, have had so many problems with my "2nd" side by side GE refrigerator. In Oct. 2006, the first one died (whole cooling system went out 30 days after it was installed. They had to deliver a 2nd one in Nov., and this one has been a LEMON since day one. We have had over 10 service calls, ranging from the icemakers being replaced, the water line to the icemaker freezing up, the veggie compartment freezing up, etc. The glass top range control panel went out the first year and had to be replaced. The GE microwave has had a horrible buzzing sound for a long time and the last repairman says ...it is only a matter of time until this goes out. The GE dishwasher is, also, on its last leg. The large spindle at the bottom is totally warped and makes a disturbing loud noise when going through the entire wash cycle. The builder chose to put the stove, dishwasher and microwave, so we had no choice. We will "never" purchase another GE appliance after all the repairs we have gone through.

BTW, Woody, did you ever email Vikki, above, and ever get an answer from your complaint? Just curious

GE Refrigerator a lemon

I have had to have my GE refrigerator repaired, under warranty, serveral times now for the same issue. During this latest attempt to get it repaired, I find that GE is claiming my warranty is out of date, only the parts are under warranty. Had the technician repaired the problem initially, the problem would have never reoccured, yet it did, hence, the technician did not repair it initially. Now GE is refusing to honor the warranty. The refrigerator's icemaker keeps dropping metal washers into the glass when dispensing ice. Nearly choked my nephew. Bascially, the icemaker is useless now.

The GE products I bought,Microwave & Fridge both have broke with in 2 yrs of ownership!!

I bought 3 GE products & spent big bucks!! 1. The Microwave stopped cooking food after 2 yrs- so we pd to have it fixed through GE only for it it to break the same way 2 yrs later. So the $300 Microwave + the $200 repair/parts cost got us for 4 yrs a $500 Microwave!!!! I bought an LG ($300 on sale) to replace it!! So add that costs in!Then the GE side by side fridge Mod#GSL25JFTA BS/ser# GL234990 - the door handle was loose after a few months- But GE would not send a guy out to fix it for free- not under warranty I was told!! Then after 1 yr ( after the warranty expired) the water stopped working- it sometimes comes on- but we have looked at the lines & changed the filter, and it still has a mind of its own. The ice works fine. It also makes a whining sound since we got it- I called about it- and they said that was the noise it makes????? Yea Right? So they are lemons! I will never buy GE again- they do not stand behind their products- with or with out the warranty!

I can relate. We bought a new house in 2005 that came with new GE appliances.

During the first year, the microwave and refrigerator broke down. The were both under warranty so it didn't cost us anything to fix it, but we lost alot of food. It took a week to get a repair person out to the house. However, the following year the fefrigerator broke down again, spoiling our food again.

This time the repairs were on us. $200.00. The same year the dishwasher broke, damaging our wood floor. My husband repaired the dishwasher, because GE wouldn't agree to fix the dishwasher or the floor.

The floor is still messed up. The third year our stove top cracked and the microwave went out again. This year our freezer went out again and the element in the oven cracked off.

I'm over GE products..but as I'm researching...looks like the other manufactures aren't making great products either. I want to buy new appliances, but sure what brand to buy next.

We bought a brand new Spacesaver microwave in 2006 and it died last week.

Now our GE refrigerator bought in 2007 has the same water dispenser issue and noises as yours. The water dispenser stopped working but the ice still works.

My husband read online you need to defrost the freezer that the water dispenser is most likely frozen inside the door. Sure enough, after two hours of defrosting the water worked. It has lasted since November, then 3 days ago same problem. We once again defrosted everything.

It started working again, this time only a day. NEVER AGAIN will I buy a GE product.

The most frustrating thing about the microwave is that it is the only one that fits in the built-in space. So now what?

Piece of *** deep fryer

Recvd your GE Deep Fryer for Christmas, WalMart won't exchange as I don't have the recpt. Used 3x and now the power doesn't work. Thoroughly cleaned it as well as the magnetic posts still nothing. My frustration mounted when it took forever for me to get to this part of your website. I'm better now. I own many GE products and so did my Momma. I know this is something probably simple to take care of but I'm struggling. Please tell me what else it may be and how to do it. Thank you Janet

GE APPLIANCES-POOR QUALITY DO NOT LAST

Purchased a water on the door side by side refrigerator, over the stove microwave, and convection oven. Something major wrong with all of them. The microwave is 5 years old, the frig and oven are 7 years old. Water line in frig freezes at least 2x/month. Have to stand there with a blow dryer to unfreeze the line. The hot burner light is stuck on in the oven, the microwave just started squeaking and making a loud sound. Called GE repair number. $79 charge to come out and since it's for multiple appliances was told to add $25-$30 per appliance. First and LAST time to buy GE. Have to replace all appliances in less than 8 years. Over $2000 investment, out the window.

Ge Profile Refrigerator

We purchased a GE Profile model PDS22 bottom freezer refrigerator in 2006, we also purchased the extended warranty. Within the first six months there was a problem with it freezing the vegetables which was repaired under warranty. A month ago it started smelling hot and would not maintain set temperatures in either compartment. I removed the back panel to discover the condenser fan had stopped working. when I unplugged the fan there was a noticeable change in the operational sounds. The compressor was too hot to touch and ran continually. I measured for power at the wires running to the cooling fan. I got a reading of 24 volts AC. Upon googling the problem, I discovered there was a problem with the motherboard shorting and burning out the cooling fan. There was according to the website YouFixIt.com there was a recall which we were never notified about by GE. We copied the letter from the website with GE saying they were replacing these components free of charge until further notice. After contacting GE we were told there was no such recall, our model was not on the list anyway (3rd from the bottom on the right column) supplied by GE. PDS22.... along with about 97 other models in the profile line built between October 05 and July 06. And told us they supplied a very good warranty and were very proud of their product line. And would do nothing for us.

GE Recall Service - NOT!!!!

So I got the recall for my GE dishwasher and called to set up service. I was told I could not use the GE serviceman we have used in the past but had to use a certified recall service person. Which they sent out. He arrived an hour after the time scheduled. Then he told me he hadn't paid attention during training for the repair. Then he spent the entire time basically telling me that people in my profession are a rip-off. Great, huh? So he left, and we notice that the dishwasher no longer shuts off when you open the door. Three days later we have the family over for thanksgiving and I run the dishwasher after dinner. My mother-in-law was the fist to notice the river of dirty water running across the floor. Not only does the dishwasher not turn off when the door is open, but now the door won't stay shut. So I called GE yet again and they set up with another company to fix it. So I take this morning off from work to be there. The repairman called to see if I had gotten the recall part. I explained that he was coming out to fix the damage from the recall part being put in. WHOA! He can't do that! I explained that GE had authorized it. He said he had to call GE and would call right back. An hour and a half later, no callback. So I called them. No can do. I have to call GE. So I call GE. First person says ok and puts me on hold (they're good at that) to schedule repair. Then switches me to another person, who switches me to another person, who switches me to another person who tells me that only the person who damaged the machine can repair it. And then she flat out tells me that no way would they have scheduled things the way they did. Ummmm, hello, I didn't schedule it, YOU did. So now I get to take another day off from work (and pay a replacement) to have the guy who broke my dishwasher come out again. Seriously??????

An addendum to my previous comment. Vikki did come thru with a option that was fair under the circumstances.

They were willing to pay for 50% of the cost of the replacement touchpad and also a $50 gift check towards GE parts or appliances.

Give her a try, she may be able to ease the pain a bit. Thanks Vikki.

Guest

Brokendishwasher, don't expect any help from Vikki. She has been trained to blow you off and hope you just go away.

They have treated me that way on the last two breakdowns on my GE Profile appliaces. I only got 2 yrs of sevice out of my Profile DW before the touchpad and main cpu board went belly up.

Then my microwave touchpad went bad and Nikki (from GE support hmmm sound familar?) gave me 2 options, 25% off their horribly inflated prices on parts or a $50 certificate towards another $2500 microwave. Ain't that sweet?

GE refuses to replace appliance doors because it's a "cosmetic issue"

In 2008, I remodeled my kitchen and installed all GE profile applicances. After the 1 year warranty period, the front panel on both the dishwasher and the side by side refridgerator, have streak and blotch patterns. I've only used the recommended stainless cleaner, but nothing helps. I called GE to complain and asked for new front panels. They tell me this is a "cosmetic" problem and they will, at a reduced price, provide new front panels...of course, I would also have to pay the technician's cost. The stainless steel materials used in these appliances appears to be faulty, but GE refuses to accept this as their responsiblity because "it's a cosmetic issue".

Had a GE wall oven a short time when the touchpad began to crack around the most often used buttons and develop air bubbles. We replaced it with the correct model.

The second is worse and took less time to start to degrade. It has a four inch air bubble beneath the surface and most of the selections have cracks around them, even those we never use. Have emailed GE twice via the website. The first received a automated response only.

The second attempt did not even receive an automated response.

We won't be buying any more GE appliances. Their customer service is unresponsive and products are worthless.

5 year old GE wall oven with less than 100 hours of use failed touchpad. Almost $400 to fix.

It's sad when $600-$700 items become disposable. I will never buy a GE again.

Guest

Yep, ours too. We have had it replaced once because one of the buttons didn't work.

The replacement cover started cracking and just keeps getting worse. Won't buy GE anymore, for sure!

Guest

I'm having the same problem, but not sure if I should go to the dealer where I purchased this product, or directly to GE.

Guest

I have the same problem and called GE today. They are sending a FREE touchpad and a FREE repairman next week.

I did not have extended warranty, and my over is 17 months old. There was a recall on my model.

Guest

I have the same problem and my GE extended warranty would not fix it. After contacting GE they have only offered to pay part of the repair.

This is also happening to other neighbors with houses build at the same time.

My oven is less than three yrs old - Model: JTP55SMSS, Serial No:TM625469Q. Any suggestions?

Guest

I am having same problem they tried to tell us not on our model number but that cant be true it would be all of the touch pads

Guest

Had same exact problem with mine. Had Best Buy extended warranty, but for some reason they could not get the part from GE.

Called GE parts and found out that the resin used in manufacturing this touchpad was not proper. GE parts sent me to GE relations and after I verified my serial number, they set up an apptment to have it replaced. (Free of Charge) even though out of GE warranty. The part was backordered but it still only took about a week.

The new touchpad is a better looking style as well.

So, don't use any extended warranty you may have, call GE direct. Good luck.

GE Spacemaker Microwave forces entering clock to work

I have a Spacemaker microwave (model "jvm1651wb ge") The clock resets for no apparent reason (no outage). Well, no problem I have cell phone and iPod and iPad, and so and so to look for clock. However, the freaking microwave does not cook or do anything before I enter the clock and date every single time it is reset! It becomes useless. A microwave should cook, I do not want it to play music for example. I want to put the food inside and cook or defrost it for some given time. The basic functionality should not be compromised for fancy details, this is what is called *** design. Am going to throw it away on next paycheck!
